Amulet Cabernet Sauvignon, 2009

Region: California
Price & Place: $45, The Turf Room (North Aurora, IL)
I was at the Turf Room in North Aurora, IL (a great wine bar) with some work associates. The owner, Parker, recommended a bottle of Amulet Cabernet Sauvignon, 2009. It was $45, a little more than I’d like to spend on a casual bottle but it was incredible! The Turf Room is the only place I know of where you can get this bottle. So if you happen to get over there make sure you let them know The Chicago Wino sent you. Trust me, it is worth the trip!
This fabulous wine is from Tuck Beckstoffer. “Amulet” means lucky charm and after tasting this luscious red it proved to be so! Amulet is sourced from several vineyards in Napa. The flavor profile is a typical Cabernet but is much more approachable, very fruit forward and generous. The tannins are unbelievably soft, which gives the wine richness and an amazing mouth feel. Amulet is that elusive Cabernet that is a beautiful glass of wine on its own, but also marries well with most meat dishes and rich starters.
Sláinte!
